Davidson County Commissioners approve plan to realign with Sandhills Center

On June 22, 2021, the Davidson County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution and a Disengagement Plan to realign responsibility for publicly-funded behavioral health services from Cardinal Innovations Healthcare to Sandhills Center. A letter, along with the plan, was sent to Dr. Mandy Cohen, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Sandhills Center is the Local Management Entity-Managed Care Organization that manages mental health, intellectual/developmental disabilities and substance use disorder services in Anson, Guilford, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph and Richmond counties in central North Carolina.

“Sandhills Center is honored to have conversations with Davidson County to examine how individuals and families who receive publicly-funded behavioral health services can be best served,” said Sandhills Center CEO Victoria Whitt. “The Davidson County Board of Commissioners reached out to us because they recognize Sandhills Center’s unwavering commitment to people currently served in our region.”

Secretary Cohen is expected to review the Davidson County plan and provide a decision in the coming months. If approved, a transition date will be determined.

“Throughout this process, Sandhills Center is committed to working closely with Davidson County leadership to collaborate with members, families, providers and the communities affected to explore how a realignment could be structured,” Whitt added.
