What to do in case of a medical emergency
The Sandhills Center Tailored Plan wants you to be ready and safe during medical emergencies and other urgent situations.
If not treated right away, a medical emergency may cause death, or severe illness or injury. An example would be poisoning, insulin reaction, seizure, or spinal injury.
If it is a medical emergency or someone is in danger, dial 911, right away
- Always remain calm.
- Give the operator (dispatcher) your name and the address of where the emergency is taking place.
- Give the patient’s name and describe their condition.
- Wait for directions from the dispatcher. Do not hang up the phone unless you are told to hang up.
- Tell the dispatcher how or where the emergency medical services crew should enter the property or building.
- Help the emergency personnel when they arrive by giving them information about the emergency. That will be helpful for treating the patient.

URGENT MEDICAL SITUATIONS
An urgent medical situation may not be life-threatening, but you could need first aid or medical treatment. Examples would be a broken or swollen arm, minor burns, heat exhaustion, or severe cuts.
It is important to be ready, just in case:
- Keep your doctor/provider contact information handy. Keep it in a safe place so you can easily find it.
- Keep your pharmacy’s phone number handy or call Perform RX on the Pharmacy line: 1-888-846-1062. This phone number is important if you lose your medications or you run out. Your pharmacy can help you get more medications quickly. PerformRx can help you get early refills when yours are spilled, lost or stolen, and/or delayed in the mail.
- Keep a first-aid kit at home. Make sure you check it often to keep it stocked with bandages, a thermometer, ointment, and other supplies.
